Maps from Ptolemy to Ashby and Beyond

Most Materials Scientists are familiar with the concept of Ashby Maps or property diagrams but it is interesting to take a broader view of the history of maps and their importance not only in various areas of science but in linking science to social needs.

This talk will give a broad overview of the history of maps in various areas of science and some ways in which the use of maps can be extended in the future.
