Dear colleagues,
We are delighted to announce that Professor Dan Bizzotto has accepted a three-year term as Director of the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory (AMPEL) effective February 1, 2025.
Dr. Bizzotto received a B.A.Sc. (Hon) in Applied Chemistry from the University of Calgary in 1989. He spent a year working in industry as an analytical chemist before continuing his studies, receiving a PhD from the University of Guelph in 1996. He began his career in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia in 1998 focussing on electrochemistry and surface chemistry and became a Full Professor in 2012. His fundamental research projects involve developing in situ electrochemical fluorescence microscopy and applying it to characterize electrode surfaces modified with biomolecules. Dr. Bizzotto has been a member of AMPEL for over 20 years and is well respected by the AMPEL community.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. John Madden for his excellent leadership and many contributions as Director of AMPEL. We have no doubt that he will continue to offer generously of his time and experience to ensure a smooth transition. We would also like to thank members of AMPEL and other stakeholders who participated in this important search process and to the AMPEL Director Search Advisory Committee for their time, commitment and extraordinary efforts.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bizzotto on his appointment as Director of AMPEL. We look forward to working with him to advance research excellence and innovation in AMPEL.
